Restoring Xpediter Functionality in Windows XP Service Pack 2

 

Please note that turning off the windows firewall will make your computer vulnerable to outside attack unless you have implemented a hardware firewall solution to protect your network.  We recommend that you protect your computer and local area network with a hardware based firewall solution before attempting to disable the windows firewall.

 

Step 1

 

In the Control Panel select Windows Firewall.


Turn off Firewall option.

 


Step 2

 

Select Cntrl Panel -> Administrative Tools.

 


Step 3

 

Then Local Security Policy.


Step 4

 

Select Security Options.


Select Remote Access.


Select Edit Security

Check the “Allow” checkbox for Local Access and Remote Access for the User Group that Xpediter users belong to.


Select Remote Launch and check “Allow” for Local Launch, Remote Launch, Local Activation and Remote Activation for the user group that Xpediter users belong to.


Step 5

 

In Control Panel -> Administrative Tools, open Component Services

 


Under Component Services -> Computers -> My Computer, right click and select Properties

 


Select the COM Security tab, click Edit Default under the Access Permissions section

 


If Everyone is not added, click the Add button to insert the group name. Select the “Allow” checkbox for both the Local Access and Remote Access options.

Click OK when done.

 


Click Edit Default under the Launch and Activation Permissions section

 


If Everyone is not added, click the Add button to insert the group name. Select the “Allow” checkbox for the Local Launch, Remote Launch, Local Activation, and Remote Activation options.

Click OK when done, and on any remaining menu screens.
